Welcome Michelle and Sam!

The Allen lab has welcomed two new graduate students to the lab this past week.

Michelle obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas in 2010.  She has some familiarity with C. elegans because while at TCU she participated in a research project that used C. elegans to determine the best way to induce mutations via EMS.  After her undergraduate, she worked as a Research Associate at MedImmune in Gaithersburg, MD  for a year.   Now she starting to get reacquainted with the worm and gearing up to start her own thesis work.

Sam obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia in 2011.  While at VUU he conducted research in the laboratory of Dr. Scott Gronert at neighboring VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University), where he analyzed substitution and elimination reaction mechanisms of polysubstituted benzenes.  Now in a worm laboratory, Sam is beginning to familiarize himself with all the various worm techniques we utilize on a daily basis.
